[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]There is nothing more fulfilling than going for your first helicopter ride in the Rocky Mountains. The experience in itself is totally different from riding in an airplane. Once you’re in the air, your pilot will maneuver the aircraft for you to have the best flying experience above and an amazing panoramic view of your surroundings. However, keep in mind that there are a few key points you should be aware of to enhance your experience and get the most out of your tour or adventure.

In this article, we will share five practical tips for your helicopter ride so that you’ll end up with the best flying experience.

Wear appropriate clothing

Wearing appropriate clothing and foot wear will make all the difference in your experience. Of course, wear clothing appropriate for the time of year and conditions. As a rule of thumb, layer your clothing, water proof, breathable outer layer and solid footwear preferably a hiking boot.

In the summertime, wearing a light jacket, t-shirt, waterproof pants and hiking boots is adequate.

In the winter, you will need to ensure you are warm and comfortable. Our adventures will take you up to new heights with large amounts of snow in mountain terrain. We suggest proper winter boots, parka, toque, snow pants, and layering underneath.  Your winter boot should have a firm sole for wearing snowshoes.  Glove and foot warmers can be purchased at the heliport.

As a reminder, hats and hanging items can be blown off during entry and exit of the helicopter so make sure they are secured.

If you’re unsure what to wear, give us a call at the heliport and we will suggest what to wear given the conditions.

Seating

When you’re inside the helicopter, the crew will help you with your seatbelt and headset. Keep in mind that there will be specific seating arrangements and instructions, so be sure to follow them.

Get well-acquainted with the helicopter

The type of helicopter we fly at Rockies Heli is an ASTAR.  All seats are forward facing with 2 guests in front and 4 guests in the back. Access to the 2 front seats will be to the left of the helicopter, access to the 4 back seats will be to the right of the helicopter. The helicopters are heated.  Everyone one is supplied with a headset for you to listen to your pilot’s commentary and you can talk with each other.

Follow your pilot’s instructions

Remember that your helicopter tour is a well-planned out trip. Its direction and destination are also carefully thought of—from the time it takes off down to the time it safely lands. During your trip, be sure to follow all the instructions provided by your pilot because they know best and want to ensure that you all get the most out of your flying experience.

Take plenty of pictures

Ultimately, don’t forget to take pictures of your surroundings! While it’s great to cherish the best view, you will want to immortalize this experience as your testimony. Before beginning the journey, be sure to prepare your camera or phone, and when you’re up in the air, don’t forget to point and shoot!

Conclusion

At this point, you now know how to make the most of your first helicopter ride with Rockies Heli. If you’ve booked a tour, be sure to wear appropriate clothing, get well-acquainted with the helicopter, follow your pilot’s instructions, and take plenty of pictures.
